It's never been easier to get a visa to stay in Thailand. Most of us welcome the new rules which affect the tourist 30 day stamp. You can only have a maximum of 3 x 30 day stamps in any one 180 day period. This means many illegal workers will now have to pay the Thai authorities some money for their visa instead of getting one every month for free. For long stayers, all you have to do now is go to a Thai consulate outside Thailand and get a 60 day tourist visa which can be extended for another 30 days without leaving the country. Laos is currently the best option. There is no limit to how many times you can do this as long as you are presentable and polite with the embassy staff. If you are working or planning to work in Thailand then you can easily get a 12 month NIB (Business visa) at a Thai consulate in your home country. (not in Asia) We can arrange this for anyone taking a 4 week TEFL course with the World TEFL School and who plans to work in Thailand afterwards. Incidentally the i-to-i weekend TEFL course certificates are no longer recognized or accepted by the Thai authorities for work permit purposes.
